New Relics

Jon David Lovejoy

A selection of works

across 15 years --

from 1993 to 2007.

I appreciate old, weathered surfaces - the textures and colors of forgotten warehouses and old industrial structures - and the stories that are contained in everyday things, through years of use. My artistic direction has always involved an exploration of these aged finishes, primarily in clay. Using clay to create a familiar form, I deny the intended purpose of that form making containers that can't contain. Teapots filled with machine parts, perforated pitchers -  these frustrated forms challenge traditional perceptions of utility and function.
